Like the modern bagpipe it contained a leather bag full of wind which supplied a drone bass against whatever melody was being played on the pipes of the instrument. This simple transcription of a Musette by Bach. transposed to E Major. uses open fifths which very much sounds like the drone of a musette or bagpipe.
