Commissioned by the University of Northern Colorado Lab Band I, this piece is written in a high energy fusion style combining elements of sophisticated heavy metal and modern Miles Davis harmonies. The bass trombone and bass are featured throughout on a challenging 16th note obligato. The basic melody features horns and guitar in a cross section voicing. The piece builds to a short soli in a Michael Brecker "EWI" style. static harmonies. which becomes a kick off to the solo section. A very challenging unison soli section by the entire band serves as a recap to the original theme, which is followed by an extended coda section. A strong opener or closer, this work finishes with a very high energy voicing.
