Russian Dance. from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker is one of the most popularly performed works of the holiday season. The term "trepak" refers to a Russian form of dance in a quick duple meter. Tchaikovsky completed The Nutcracker in early 1892, and the work was first performed in St. Petersburg in December of that same year. The engaging primary thematic material occurs mostly in the violin, while the secondary, coutermelodic material is in the lower strings.
