The words to Humpty Dumpty are the traditional nursery rhyme. The duet is in classic ABA form, with a central lament – ‘Piu lento e doloroso’ – when all the king’s horses and all the king’s men fail so miserably to restore our hero. Twentieth century English composer Herbert Murrill was not only a respected composer, but also head of music at the BBC and professor of composition at the Royal Acadmey of Music. Clearly, he also had a playful bent, as this parody of a Handel duet shows.
