  • It's not absolutely clear from the score, whether this was written by Hellmesberger Sr. or Joseph Hellmesberger Jr. (1855-1907.) But Hellmesberger Sr. composed about 250 works, mainly salon pieces and instructive works, for violin. His son's priority were operettas, waltzes, polkas etc. Therefore I filled this under Hellmesberger Sr.
  • Further to the comment above, Grove Music cites both of them as having taught the violin, and though Hellmesberger Sr. had the more famous students (including Auer), both Sr. and Jr. held positions as Professor of Violin at the Conservatory in Vienna.
  • WorldCat has 7 entries for this work; of these, 4 credit the work to Hellmesberger Jr. (with correct dates), 2 do not specify either Jr. or Sr., and the last one says "[Jun.]", but when the composer link is clicked, it brings up a page that gives the dates 1828-1893, which are the dates of Sr.
  • Doblinger's own catalogue does not specify Sr. or Jr.
