This wonderful, little-known song from the Burt Bacharach/Hal David Broadway musical Promises, Promises, originally a waltz, is done here in a 4/4 up-tempo jazz treatment. The introduction features horns and voices together, building to a pyramid in quartal voicings. The tune itself is an angular Bacharach melody, with lush harmonizations, a beautiful Singers Unlimited-type treatment of the ending and a sensitive Hal David lyric on the true meaning of the Christmas season. SATB with rhythm section and alto and tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone.
